Dallas employment lawyer Steve Kardell, a partner at Dallas employment law firm Clouse Dunn Khoshbin LLP, filed a lawsuit this week against the Texas Attorney General’s office on behalf of a whistleblower (http://pdfserver.amlaw.com/tx/weatherspoon.pdf). Plaintiff Ginger Weatherspoon alleges that she was terminated from her position as an attorney at the Office of the Attorney General because she informed a supervisor that her superiors violated the law by attempting to suborn perjured testimony from her.

In February 2008, Weatherspoon’s superiors attempted to coerce her into signing an affidavit containing false information regarding a sitting Dallas County judge.  Weatherspoon offered to sign the affidavit after revising it, but her superiors repeatedly demanded that she sign the affidavit as presented or appear for a meeting.  Once Weatherspoon arrived at the meeting, her superiors yelled at her to sign the affidavit and informed her that the Attorney General Greg Abbott himself was “waiting” on Plaintiff to sign the false affidavit.  When Weatherspoon refused to sign it, her superiors confined her to a room against her will.

Weatherspoon immediately reported this incident to her supervisor, detailing her superiors’ actions.  Following this incident, and in retaliation for her reporting it, the Office of the Attorney General took adverse actions against Weatherspoon, culminating in her termination a few months later.
