The days are still dark at this time of year, and Pedlars, much-loved purveyors of wonderful stuff for the home, office and the great outdoors, has some lovely lamps to brighten interiors at home and increasingly at restaurants.

These are some of Pedlars’ most popular.

Pedlars is selling an increasing number of lights to restaurants, particularly its range of Welsh lamps which are made in South Wales, by a long-established, family-run Metal Spinning company that used to specialise in miner's lamps.

The Paris Pendant has the style of the French capital, made from resilient but light aluminium with an exposed bulb that sheds an impressive amount of light – multiple lights would illuminate a large canteen-style dining room for example.

The Café Lamp with its traditional and handsome shape is perfect for downlighting a cosy booth or individual table. It’s available in red, cream or silver aluminium.

The Kitchen Lamp casts a warm glow over a dining table. Its retro shape is made of aluminium and it’s available in red, cream or silver.

For several years, Pedlars has offered charming dog lamps made by Bath-based designer Matt Pugh, and they have proved to be best-selling lighting pieces. Transforming the ‘collar of shame’ into a witty lampshade, they are available in two versions: sitting (which is exclusive to Pedlars) and standing.

The sitting dog lamp is made of walnut wood with an ivory coloured shade. Standing 30cm high, it’s suitable for a side table, mantelpiece or anywhere that needs a bit of brightening up.

The standing dog lamp, made of walnut and also with an ivory coloured shade, is a perfect little bedside illuminator at 15cm high – and an ideal light for a child’s room.

Pedlars is particularly fond of dogs (there’s even a dog in their logo!): their website features a Dog of the Week, and hundreds of customers have sent in pictures and profiles of their own dogs. Each Dog of the Week wins a prize. You can enter your dog by snapping him/her on your phone or camera, add a few details, name, breed etc and sending the details to [email protected]
