Mackin Educational Resources Announces the National Launch of Here Be Fiction

Mackin Educational Resources is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Here Be Fiction, an innovative program, powered by Mackin’s eBook platform, MackinVIA and supported by School Library Journal. This program provides a “summer reading style” opportunity for school librarians to discover fiction eBooks from established, well-respected publishers.

Created by Christopher Harris, author of the Infomancy Blog and School Library Systems Coordinator for the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, Here Be Fiction will provide hundreds of fiction eBooks from established and trustworthy publishers, creating exposure and opportunities for works that seldom, or never, get reviewed by the major journals.

“This is a simple and powerful concept that has been discovered and launched at such an ideal time,” said Kitty Heise, co-owner of Mackin Educational Resources. “This partnership between Mackin and Here Be Fiction will give a much needed voice and presence to a group that is traditionally underrepresented.”

School librarians who use Here Be Fiction will be able to identify quality eBooks made available from a wide variety of publishers. They can then browse eBook previews and reviews posted at HereBeFiction.org. Through Mackin’s purchasing power, the site provides school library-friendly licensing terms, for titles readily available for licensing by school libraries for single and some for multi-user access.

Active site visitors will find it easy to highlight and share books they discover via Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. They will also be able to create wish lists of featured books that can then be downloaded or sent for a price quote, further enhancing the ability for schools to purchase affordable fiction and receive deeper discounts on multiple copy purchases.

The initial phase runs from July 15 to September 15 where selected school librarians around the country will have free access during their summer vacations to read and review eBook fiction from participating publishers, using the secure MackinVIA platform. Looking ahead, Here Be Fiction will again allow librarian reviewers to access books for free during future school vacation times.
