If this past winter in Massachusetts was any indication of years to come, even subcompact vehicles are going to need serious capability to navigate the state's snow-packed streets. Thankfully, the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade is now on sale in Greater Boston, and it has introduced go-anywhere performance to the burgeoning subcompact SUV segment.
Two available Jeep Active Drive 4x4 systems make the Renegade a confidence-inspiring ride both on- and off-road, and drivers can tailor the traction of any 4x4-equipped model by switching between the Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud settings of the Selec-Terrain system. A rigid body structure comprised largely of high-strength steel, magnesium and aluminum contributes to the vehicle's stability, while a KONI frequency-selective-damping front and rear strut system enables responsive handling during daily commutes. Underneath the hood, the 2015 Renegade comes standard with an efficient 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine, but buyers can also upgrade to a 180-horsepower 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 four-cylinder that is paired to a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission.

Though it features Jeep's familiar seven-slot grille and mimics the upright stance of the iconic Wrangler, the 2015 Renegade has its own standout styling, donning a sleek rear spoiler, X-motif taillights and dark cladding around its entire lower body. Like the Wrangler, the Renegade offers open-air driving, but that experience is created through an available My Sky dual-panel roof system that allows panels to be retracted or even completely removed. While drivers are enjoying that fresh air and extra sunlight, they can set the day's soundtrack with an optional 5.0-inch or 6.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, which can stream music through Bluetooth or play tunes from devices connected to the standard USB port or auxiliary input.
