3D-P Deploys the First Successful 802.11n Wireless Network in Mining Environment

Knox Gold Mine for Kinross Gold, a Canadian-based gold mining company. This is the first successful deployment of its kind in a surface mining environment.

After careful consideration and consultation with the Ft. Knox mine leadership team, it was determined that an 802.11n network would best suit the requirements of the mine, and achieve not only Kinross’ short-term goals, but their long-term objectives and initiatives for the mine as well. This decision was based on two factors: the increasing demand for higher through-put requirements from intensive data-driven applications currently onboard the mobile fleet, and the need to meet Kinross’ future bandwidth requirements for additional applications.
