On SeymourSimon.com children read, suggest ideas for, and comment on the Seymour Science Blog, where over the last two years his month-long Earth Day coverage has generated more than 500 “Earth Day Promises” written by elementary school students. The blog also offers a “Writing Wednesday” exercise every week that is linked to the Common Core State Standards, providing students and educators with compelling opportunities for nonfiction writing.
In addition to creating an award-winning author website, Seymour Simon is also the co-founder of StarWalk Kids Media, a newly formed eBook publisher of high quality, easily searchable children’s literature, with an emphasis on quality nonfiction. The StarWalk collection features the work of award-winning authors and illustrators that educators know and trust. Each eBook is searchable in the collection by subject, grade, Lexile, Alphabetic, and Common Core standards, and can be streamed to any computer, netbook, tablet, smartphone or whiteboard for unlimited, simultaneous access by both educators and students, at school or at home. The streaming eBook library is delivered via the best-in-class, proprietary StarWalk Reader, which will be introduced at the ALA Annual meeting in Anaheim, and will be available for free trials and sales at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.
