A Welsh children’s hospice is celebrating after receiving £4,039 donation from Co-operative Employee Benefits.
Ty Hafan, the family hospice for children and young people, based in Sully, South Wales will use some of the money to buy much needed equipment for its multi-sensory room which provides children with a fun and stimulating environment through the use of bubble tubes and fibre optics.
The rest of the donation will be put towards a hydrotherapy pool costing more than £450,000 to build.
The pool will be used for diversionary therapy sessions and will help to alleviate physical pain and discomfort. Families will also be able to spend time together in the tranquil environment.
Alan Webb, Regional Manager for Co-operative Employee Benefits said: “We are so pleased that we have again been able to help Ty Hafan, it offers such strength and support for children, young people and their families at such a difficult time in their lives.
“We have supported the charity since 2008 and are delighted that during this time we’ve donated a total of £32,664. It’s important that we support others particularly given that it’s International Year of Co-operatives which is all about building a better future.”
The family hospice offers comfort, care and support for life-limited children and young people in Wales and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the whole family.
Ty Hafan’s palliative care provision, which includes short break and end of life care, costs millions of pounds to run every year. The money is raised almost entirely from the generosity of the general public and the business community.
Laura Barlow, Business & Community Development Co-ordinator at Ty Hafan, said: “The donation from Co-operative Employee Benefits is fantastic news and will help to make a real difference to the children and families and we really appreciate the ongoing support.
“The hospice care team is absolutely delighted that we will be able to purchase new equipment and continue to build and develop the hydrotherapy pool.
The donation comes courtesy of the Co-operative Employee Benefits Dividend Fund, which gives 10 per cent of profits from sales of Childcare Vouchers to child-related charities. It is part of The Midcounties Co-operative and is a leading ethical business which re-invest profits into local projects and charities.
This year Co-operative Employee benefits has donated a total of £24,617 to children’s charities from its Childcare Voucher Dividend Fund.
