Redesigned Models Propel Nissan to Record July Sales

Altima, Pathfinder and Versa Reach Best-Ever Tallies for the Month

Following the arrival of its all-new 2014 Nissan Versa Note hatchback at dealerships in June, Nissan has now redesigned four of its five top-selling vehicles in just over a year. Those changes paid big dividends in July, as three of those fresh models, the Nissan Altima, Pathfinder and Versa, each reached their best-ever sales for the month, helping the auto brand set an overall July sales record.

Nissan sold 101,279 models in the United States in July, resulting in a 17 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Leading the way for the automaker was the Altima, which saw its sales rise by 11 percent year-over-year, totaling 29,534 units. Meanwhile, Nissan's Pathfinder SUV attracted an impressive sales jump of 235 percent over July 2012, and sales of the Versa subcompact increased by 21 percent year-over-year, boosted by the addition of the 2014 Versa Note.

"The great thing that the new Altima, Pathfinder and Versa Note all have in common is that they offer drivers incredible fuel economy without losing focus on style and features," said Joe Lage, general sales manager of Rosen Nissan Gurnee, a Chicago Nissan dealership. "Nissan will be applying those same elements to the Rogue when it becomes the brand's fifth newly redesigned model late this year."

Though official details have yet to be released, the 2014 Nissan Rogue will be one of the first vehicles to ride on the automaker's new, flexible Common Module Family platform, and the next-generation compact crossover will be produced in America at Nissan's Smyrna, Tenn., assembly plant. Even with a new model on the way, the current generation of the Rogue remains popular at dealerships, selling 16,992 units last month for a July record of its own.

Nissan's success in the showroom also extended to its all-electric LEAF last month. The Nissan LEAF outsold the Chevy Volt and posted its best-ever July sales, achieving a 372 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Through July of this year, Nissan has sold 11,703 LEAFs in the United States, more than it moved in all of 2012 or 2011.

"For the 2013 model year, Nissan increased the efficiency and range of the LEAF while nearly slashing its 220-volt charging time in half with a newly available 6.6-kilowatt onboard charger, and those upgrades have definitely driven sales," added Lage. "More importantly, though, buyers are increasingly realizing that the LEAF is an extremely viable everyday ride. Most Chicagoland commuters can get into the city and back home on a single charge with the LEAF, but if they do have to charge up, the process is now more convenient than ever."
