To celebrate its impressive achievement of attracting 5 million Facebook fans, Porsche recently gave its legion of followers a chance to collectively design a custom 911 Carrera 4S by voting on various features. Now, the luxury automaker is giving fans a chance to drive the Porsche 911 5 Million Car in a Facebook contest at www.porsche.com/5million.
Sporting "5M Porsche Fans" decals on its side skirts and an Aqua Blue Metallic paint job that echoes Facebook's branding color, the special 911 Carrera 4S features white 20-inch Carrera S wheels and an Aerokit Cup that includes a unique front-spoiler lip and a rear spoiler with a fixed wing. Inside, the contest winner will find a plaque that reads, "Personally built by 5 Million Porsche Fans," and he or she will benefit from the Powerkit Carrera S under the hood, which boosts output from 400 horsepower to 430 horsepower.
"It takes a special kind of auto brand to reach 5 million Facebook fans, and Porsche is proving that fact by giving one driving enthusiast an incredible opportunity to get behind the wheel of the crowdsourced 911," said Larry Bedell, general manager of Porsche of Nashua, a Porsche dealer in New Hampshire. "Even if customers aren't fortunate enough to win the contest, though, many of the features in the Porsche 911 5 Million Car can be ordered at dealerships, so they can customize their own dream car to take home."
The 5 Million Car contest will reward the entrant with the most public Porsche fans on his or her Facebook friend list by Aug. 18, and the winner will be able to bring a guest to the Porsche Experience Center at the United Kingdom's Silverstone race track, where they will drive the exclusive 911 Carrera 4S. Nine runners-up will also receive a 1:43-scale model of the one-off sports car.
While Facebook fans are certainly valuable assets for an automaker, the opinions of its actual customers ultimately matter most, and Porsche continues to impress them as well. For the ninth consecutive year, the luxury marque topped all auto brands in the J.D. Power and Associates Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, which measures how gratifying vehicles are to drive and own. To determine winners in the recently released 2013 study, J.D. Power surveyed more than 83,000 purchasers and lessees of 2013-model-year vehicles on eight categories of performance and design.
