Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy 126-year Anniversary

On August 5th, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn moderated a ceremony opening the celebration of Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy’s 126th anniversary.

The Privy Counselor General Surayuth Julanon, the Deputy Minister of Defense, General Yuthasak Sasipraph, the Minister of Defense General Tanongsak Apirakiotin, the Commander General Tanasuk Patimaprakon, the Commander-in-Chief, General Prayuth Chan-Ocha, and many other high-ranking officers attended the ceremony.

The Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (CRMA) was founded on August 5, 1887, by King Chulachomklao, or King Rama V and also known as King Chulalongkorn. The school was originally called the Royal Military Academy. On January 1, 1948, it was merged with the Royal Thai Army Polytechnic Institute under its new name, the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, in the honor of King Chulachomklao.
The Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy was originally located in the precinct of the Saranrom Palace in Bangkok, where it remained there for 77 years. In 1909, the Academy was moved to Rajadamnoen Nok Avenue in Bangkok. Lastly, on July 10, 1986, it was moved to its new large complex at Khao Cha-ngoke, in the Mueang District of Nakhon Nayok Province, 140 km northeast of Bangkok.

The atmosphere of the ceremony went as planned; General Yuthasak spoke with General Surayuth in a relaxed manner. Earlier, there had been a sound clip that had gone viral on the Internet. The clip sounded like a conversation between General Yuthasak and Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the ex-prime minister referred negatively to General Surayuth. General Thanasak nevertheless had a cheerful expression while talking to the press and denied discussing the rumor of a coming coup.
