Hyundai Earns Seventh IIHS Top Safety Pick+ with Elantra

Premium safety doesn't have to come at a premium price, as proven by Hyundai's affordable offerings, seven of which have earned Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ titles. The latest model to join the safe lineup is the 2013 Hyundai Elantra, a compact sedan with a starting MSRP of $16,965.

To be labeled with the Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must achieve the top rating of "good" in four out of five IIHS crash tests, and score no lower than "acceptable" in the fifth test. The stringent evaluations include moderate- and small-overlap frontal, side-impact, rollover and rear crash tests. Boosted by the extensive use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel in its body structure, the 2013 Hyundai Elantra received "good" ratings in four tests and "acceptable" in the new small-overlap frontal test.
