Nissan Versa Note Rated KBB.com's No. 1 Back-to-School Car

The 2014 Nissan Versa Note has already made a strong impression this year, helping Nissan set a July sales record, and the all-new hatchback recently earned another stamp of approval -- this time by automotive valuation firm Kelley Blue Book. In a study of the best new models on the market for college-age students, KBB.com named the 2014 Versa Note the No. 1 back-to-school car, beating out the likes of the 2013 Ford Focus, Chevy Sonic and Honda Civic in the process.

The list of the 10 Best Back-to-School Cars of 2013, compiled by KBB.com's editorial staff, compared models that are available starting at less than $20,000 -- the 2014 Versa Note's available starting price is less than $15,000 -- and also factored in safety, style, fuel efficiency and versatility. Fuel economy was a major contributor to the Versa Note’s victory, as the 2014 model delivers up to 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway.

"College students are always looking for ways to stretch their budget, and the Versa Note will help them save big-time on gas expenditures," said Erik Scholp, general sales manager of Bridgewater Nissan, a Nissan dealer in New Jersey. "When you factor in low up-front costs and a wide range of high-tech offerings, it's easy to see why students are gravitating toward the 2014 Versa Note."

If recent Nissan sales figures are any indication, the all-new Versa Note, which hit the market this summer, has piqued the interest of consumers in the early going. The Versa Note helped propel Nissan Versa sales -- which include both the Versa Note and the Versa Sedan -- to a 21 percent year-over-year increase in July, setting a new sales record for the month at 9,007 units. Overall Nissan sales also set a July record, at 101,279 units, after jumping 17 percent year-over-year compared to July 2012.
