Redesigned 2014 Mazda3 Rolls Out to Dealers

Boldly Styled Compact Returns Class-Leading 41 MPG on Highway

Mazda's KODO, or Soul of Motion, design language has already proven popular on the new CX-5 compact crossover and the redesigned 2014 Mazda6, and now the lineup's best-seller has been given the same flowing styling. The all-new 2014 Mazda3 has been rolling out to dealerships during the past month, donning the brand's new pentagonal grille, swept-back headlights and aggressively flared fenders.

Underneath its sleek new sheet metal, the redesigned Mazda3 now features Mazda's full suite of lightweight and efficient SKYACTIV technologies, enabling sedan models to return a class-leading 41 mpg on the highway with the standard 155-horsepower 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G engine. Drivers seeking an extra dose of performance can instead opt for the 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G unit, which produces 184 horsepower while still netting 39 mpg on the highway.

"Typically, the compact models that conserve the most fuel are also the most conservative when it comes to styling, but the new Mazda3 bucks that trend with its daring design," said Barry Chew, sales manager of Mastria Mazda, a Greater Boston Mazda dealer. "The 2014 Mazda3 also backs up its sporty styling with engaging driving dynamics, thanks in large part to its lightweight-yet-strong SKYACTIV body and chassis."

The new Mazda3 joins the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 as the automaker's third model to benefit from the full complement of SKYACTIV technologies. In August, the CX-5 saw its best month of sales since hitting the market in February 2012, while sales of the Mazda6 midsize sedan were up by 167 percent compared to the same month last year. Mazda recently indicated to WardsAuto that the success of those two models has eased its reliance on the Mazda3 to increase brand market share. Since going on sale a decade ago, the Mazda3 has accounted for 40 percent of the automaker's U.S. sales.

While Mazda has been focused on pushing out new models during the past couple years, it also recently sweetened the deal for buyers of its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles. Beyond its previously existing three-year AutoCheck Buyback Protection, Mazda is now offering CPO buyers a new limited warranty that covers 12 months and 12,000 miles after the factory warranty expires. The brand has also added one year and 20,000 miles to CPO vehicle eligibility, meaning that 2008 - 2013 model years with less than 80,000 miles now qualify.

"Mazda vehicles retain their value and stay on the road for a long time, so the enhanced warranty is designed to give drivers more cost savings and peace of mind during their extended ownership," added Chew. "There's a reason why Mazda's pre-owned sales have risen by 40 percent in the last year, and it's that more customers are realizing that they are getting a reliable, fuel-efficient and fun ride for years to come."
