Boosted by Its Regal, Buick Attracts Best October Sales Since 2004

Sales of Midsize Sedan Rise by 47 Percent Year-over-Year

While Buick was celebrating more than 40 years of the Regal nameplate in October, the current version of the car was showing off its renewed appeal at dealerships. Sales of the fifth-generation Regal midsize sedan rose by 47 percent year-over-year last month, helping Buick post its best October tally since 2004. In the meantime, refreshed 2014 Buick Regal models have started rolling out to showrooms with improved style, technology, performance and fuel efficiency.

Intent on attracting younger buyers, Buick has given the 2014 Regal more expressive styling, with new headlamps, a tweaked grille and sleek wing-shaped LED taillights. Staying connected on the road is easier as well, thanks to an available next-generation IntelliLink infotainment system that features simpler controls and natural language voice recognition. With the introduction of new camera- and radar-based safety technology, the latest Buick Regal also has all the angles covered on the road, offering options like Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Change Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert.

"The current-generation Buick Regal appeals to modern buyers with its engaging style and intuitive technology, and those qualities are resulting in boosted sales," said Robert Lefrancois, general sales manager of Mastria Buick GMC Cadillac, a Massachusetts Buick dealer. "The Regal nameplate has been around for decades, but the latest iteration of the car is really a drastic departure from past models in how it combines fun driving with smart driving."

With its new standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 2014 Buick Regal produces 259 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque while returning up to 30 mpg on the highway with its standard six-speed automatic transmission. Should drivers want enhanced handling and a firmer grip on the road, an all-wheel-drive system is newly available, while the performance-focused Regal GS boasts Brembo brakes and an Interactive Drive Control system that can be used to customize the suspension and steering response.

Buick's efforts to attract a new generation of Regal fans appear to be taking hold. About half of all Regal buyers are new to Buick, and they have the lowest median age in the brand's lineup. Overall, the average age of Buick buyers has dropped by seven years since the marque started revamping its offerings five years ago.

"Whether it's modernizing its established models or creating entirely new ones like the compact Verano and Encore, Buick is tapped into what today's drivers are looking for in a vehicle," noted Lefrancois. "Still, Buick's decades-old reputation for refined rides and quiet, comfortable cabins holds true to this day."
