After decades as one of the most popular cars among drivers in general and the tuning community in particular, the seventh-generation 2015 Volkswagen Golf wowed stateside fans yet again with a tuned model on display at the SEMA show in Las Vegas this month. The German automaker took the opportunity to present three select models that highlight the most relevant upcoming changes to Volkswagen's lineup: the highly anticipated Golf VII and new turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

Two VW Jetta models were equipped with the new EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder engine with direct injection. The new powerplant was showcased in the 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter capacities that are being rolled out as the standard engines across the lineup, replacing the outgoing 2.5-liter five-cylinder option for a considerable weight gain and increased fuel efficiency. In addition, both Jetta models received an impressive tune-up that boosted their power output to 400 and 425 horsepower, respectively.

"Volkswagen Golf and GTI models are a great canvas for owners to customize and show their personality, using either VW accessories or aftermarket body parts," said Kevin Misanko, director of operations of the Gallery Automotive Group, which includes a Volkswagen dealership near Boston. "The new engines and architecture will also ensure that the Golf's performance is just as impressive as its looks."

Arriving in the first quarter of 2014, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI will sport larger dimensions compared to the current sixth generation. Design will be refreshed while still retaining the unmistakable body shape that identifies the Golf as an automotive icon worldwide. Switching to the new standard 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will allow the 2015 VW Golf to save weight and generate just as much power and even more torque than the previous 2.5-liter option while returning better fuel efficiency.
