Whether car buyers are more concerned with the immediate financial impact of their purchase or its implications in the future, they will be able to find a model that addresses both considerations in Strategic Vision's 2013 Total Value Index (TVI). The consumer-research firm recently surveyed nearly 46,000 new-car buyers to assess their immediate and expected economic consequences of ownership, and Hyundai emerged as the Total Value leader among automakers for the first time in the study's 18-year history.

Among the immediate financial factors analyzed in the Strategic Vision TVI were total down payment, drive-off costs, special incentive programs and warranty costs, while the long-term expected factors included fuel economy, reliability, durability and resale value. In addition to the overall brand win, Hyundai's Equus luxury sedan had the highest TVI score in the industry and won the Luxury Car category, while the Hyundai Elantra, Genesis Coupe and Sonata were winners in the Small Car, Premium Coupe and Mid-Size Car segments, respectively.

"Hyundai customers can feel very confident they'll get the most value out of their vehicle for as long as they own it, and at the same time, they'll enjoy a comfortable and stylish ride," said Drew Hill, general manager of AutoFair Hyundai, a New Hampshire Hyundai dealer in Manchester. "Not only do Hyundai buyers leave the dealership satisfied with their affordable purchase, but they feel a similar satisfaction when they get to trade in their car for more money in the future."

Two other Hyundai models were recently honored for their long-term value, with the 2014 Hyundai Accent and Santa Fe Sport each earning 2014 ALG Residual Value Awards. Leading the Subcompact Car category, the Accent was predicted to retain the highest percentage of its MSRP after three years of ownership, while the Santa Fe Sport accomplished the same feat in the Midsize Utility Vehicle -- 2 Row segment. ALG considered factors like historical vehicle performance, segment competition and industry trends when determining its residual values.
