Sleeker and Sportier 2015 Chrysler 200 Bows at Detroit Auto Show

Redesigned Midsize Sedan Takes a Dramatic Turn from Its Predecessor

Aside from their shared nameplate, the current Chrysler 200 and the recently revealed next-generation 2015 model have little in common, an intentional move from Chrysler to reset expectations in the premium midsize segment. Riding on the automaker's new Compact U.S.-wide platform, the redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200 bowed earlier this month at the Detroit Auto Show, boasting European-style handling and an expressive design to match.

The stiffer body structure of the 2015 Chrysler 200 is engineered to provide a more dynamic driving experience while maintaining the ride comfort of prior models, incorporating laser-brazed roof welds and a high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel composition making up 60 percent of the sedan's body. Meanwhile, the exterior sheet metal forms a flowing silhouette, particularly in the rear with the car's dramatically sloping greenhouse. Up front, the 2015 Chrysler 200 showcases a new style direction for the brand, with the grille's design lines swooping directly into large, swept-back headlights.

"When it goes on sale in the second quarter of this year, the new Chrysler 200 will retain the quiet and refined ride that has characterized past models, but otherwise, it will look and feel completely different," said Brian Duval, general manager of Concord, New Hampshire Chrysler dealer Bob Mariano Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram. "The 2015 model will be able to let loose on back roads like never before while turning heads on the daily commute with its sculpted styling."

Helping the 2015 Chrysler 200 achieve its livelier performance is a new standard 2.4-liter MultiAir2 Tigershark four-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower and is estimated by Chrysler to return 35 mpg on the highway. Buyers will also be able to opt for an award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that churns out a best-in-class 295 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Those two powertrains are controlled in part by a new rotary e-shift dial, which sits on a cleverly designed center console with a pass-through storage area that offers easy access to a hidden power supply.
