Toyota Taps the Muppets for 2014 Highlander Ad During the Big Game

'Animal' and Company Sing the Praises of the Redesigned SUV

The redesigned 2014 Toyota Highlander will seat up to eight human passengers when it goes on sale this month, but a commercial that aired during the Big Game this past weekend showed that the SUV can fit a whole lot more of the Muppets. Titled "Joyride," the 60-second spot stars Terry Crews of the FOX TV show "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and several popular Muppets in an effort to promote not only the 2014 Highlander but also the March 21 premiere of the latest Muppets film, "Muppets Most Wanted." The commercial can be viewed online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5A3R4XqhOA.

"Joyride" follows Crews in his 2014 Highlander along a remote country road, where he finds a colorful broken-down tour bus. Before he can even finish his offer for help, members of Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, the Muppets' house band, start climbing into the sleek midsize SUV. Despite Crews' objections, the Muppets break into an original song with the refrain "we ain't got no room for boring" and then proceed to spice up a bingo night full of elderly women before hitting up a vineyard and a parade. The final shot cuts to Crews deliriously singing the tune through the sunroof of his Highlander, which seemingly never left his driveway, as his skeptical neighbor Kermit the Frog looks on.

"Besides being highly entertaining, Toyota's Highlander commercial with the Muppets highlights the fact that the redesigned SUV can get everyone and everything to the next adventure in complete comfort, whether it's a Muppets sing-a-long or just your kid's soccer practice," said Jeff Leclerc, general sales manager of Central Maine Toyota, a Waterville, ME Toyota dealership. "Not to mention, the ad shows that the Highlander's new styling is modern enough to impress a progressive band like Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem."

Featuring three-row seating, the 2014 Toyota Highlander comes with a new one-step second-row sliding seat function that opens up nearly three more inches of space for getting in and out of the third row. Up front, a soft-touch instrument panel and new roll-top center console enhance comfort and refinement, while standard features like Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, Entune Audio with a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and an integrated backup camera ensure that drivers stay safely connected. Outside, the 2014 Highlander sports a longer and wider silhouette, sculpted side-door panels and a lower roofline for better aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.
