2015 Subaru Legacy Looks to Gain Traction in Popular Midsize Segment

Redesigned All-Wheel-Drive Sedan Boosts Efficiency, Comfort and Style

As one of the hottest auto brands in America, Subaru has driven several popular new models to market in the past few years, including completely redesigned versions of its Impreza and Forester as well as the all-new XV Crosstrek and BRZ sports car. However, the automaker's launch of the next-generation 2015 Subaru Legacy this summer could represent an even greater opportunity for growth, as the sedan will look to gain traction in the popular midsize segment following its introduction at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this month.

Currently Subaru's fifth-best-selling vehicle, the Legacy stands to pick up a lot of ground with midsize-sedan buyers, and the automaker intends to accomplish that goal with an impressive mix of fuel efficiency, comfort, capability and style. Receiving a new standard Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), the 2015 Legacy is estimated by Subaru to be about 12 percent more fuel efficient than the outgoing model, returning up to 36 mpg on the highway with its standard four-cylinder Boxer engine and up to 28 mpg on the highway with its optional six-cylinder Boxer. Meanwhile, the new Legacy will boast the roomiest passenger cabin in the midsize segment and a smoother, quieter and nimbler ride thanks to a new acoustic windshield, liquid-filled engine mounts, thicker body panels in strategic locations and standard Active Torque Vectoring.

"The 2015 Subaru Legacy will remain the only midsize sedan to come standard with all-wheel drive, but you won't notice that at the gas pump because the car will return similar fuel economy to many of its front-wheel-drive competitors," said Chris Dunn, general sales manager of Mastria Subaru, a Greater Boston Subaru dealership in Raynham, Mass. "That means that Legacy buyers will get the confidence they need to tackle whatever crazy weather we receive in New England without having to forgo fuel savings or the benefit of a comfortable-yet-responsive ride."

The 2015 Subaru Legacy will provide more peace of mind when it comes to safety as well, offering a standard rear-view camera and a new rollover sensor that can release the side-curtain airbags in advance if an imminent rollover is detected. Buyers will also be able to opt for the Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert preventative-safety technologies, which are made possible by a new rear radar system. Despite its increased practicality, the 2015 Legacy is styled to evoke a more emotional response than its predecessors, featuring a coupe-like exterior profile with a more raked front windshield and a "nosecone" front fascia that smoothly integrates the grille and bumper.
