As the best-selling two-door convertible sports car in history celebrates a quarter-century on the market, Mazda is giving some lucky buyers a chance to stand out with a new limited edition of the MX-5 Miata. Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show last month, just 100 units of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition will be available to U.S. buyers when it goes on sale later this spring.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition sports a Soul Red Metallic paintjob that is contrasted by black front lamp bezels and 17-inch Dark Gunmetal 10-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels, as well as Brilliant Black finish on the hard top, A-pillars, windshield surround and outside mirrors. Under the hood, the individual engine parts have been hand-selected by Mazda engineers to be the lightest and most balanced, while the ride will be enhanced in six-speed-manual models thanks to standard Bilstein dampers. The limited-edition MX-5 Miata's bold exterior styling and aggressive driving demeanor give way to a more serene feel inside the cabin, where Almond leather seats, satin-chrome trim and red upholstery stitching will coddle passengers while the exclusive aluminum-alloy pedals remind drivers they are in a sports car. Of course, 25th Anniversary logos will be found both inside and outside of the model.

"There may be more MX-5 Miatas on the streets than any other roadster, but the 25th Anniversary Edition will give buyers the satisfaction of knowing they'll likely never see someone else with their exact model," said Scott Grabowski, general manager of Rosen Mazda Lake Villa, an Illinois Mazda dealer. "The limited-edition MX-5 Miata is the perfect way to pay homage to the short-yet-storied past of a revered sports car, especially as driving enthusiasts start to look toward the future with a new generation of the vehicle coming soon."

Though details on the specs and launch timing of the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata are still limited, Mazda debuted the car's new SKYACTIV-CHASSIS in New York last month as well. Fourteen percent lighter than the current chassis, the SKYACTIV-CHASSIS is expected to help the new MX-5 Miata drop more than 220 pounds compared to its predecessor, all while providing added strength and supporting a revised suspension setup. Additionally, the new chassis will position the engine closer to the center of the car to improve handling, and the overall center of gravity of the next-generation model is claimed by Mazda to be the lowest of any MX-5 Miata yet.
