Boca Raton, FL / January 23, 2019 / --  Life of Purpose, a provider of addiction recovery services in Pennsylvania and Florida, has published two new articles to the blog on their website. The Life of Purpose blog is intended to be a valuable, informative and comforting resource for adults and teens who are working through the process, or need addiction recovery treatment.

“We’re committed to providing those suffering with addiction and their families the resources they need for the difficult journey ahead,” stated Kerry Coyle, Executive Director at Life of Purpose. “One of the most difficult parts of the recovery process is recognizing when a problem exists. Our two most recent additions to our blog are aimed at helping families recognize the signs of addiction that might not be so obvious, including how social media can increase a teen’s vulnerability to peer influence and substance misuse.”

Life of Purpose’s two new blog articles are titled "How To Identify If Someone You Love Is A High Functioning Addict" and "Understanding How Social Media And Addiction Are Connected For Today’s Teen." Recognizing addiction can be difficult and confronting someone you care about is never a comfortable situation. Often, a person with a substance use disorder will develop a defense mechanism to protect their addiction and their reputation. This defensiveness can result in family and loved ones questioning their own intuition and knowledge about the situation. These two new articles help parents and loved ones identify when a substance use issue exists and behaviors that can lead to substance misuse.

“As the first addiction treatment center to be located on a U.S. college campus, we’re extremely sensitive to the behaviors and mindsets that can lead to addiction in young adults and teens,” Coyle added. “While social media isn’t damaging to all teens, it can present a doorway to substance misuse to teens and young adults who are more at risk of addictive behaviors. Drug and alcohol use can seem normal on social media, with the effects of misuse never making it onto their social feeds. This illusion can present a dangerous situation for teens and young adults.”

The two recent blogs published by Life of Purpose are separate, distinct topics; however, they do share a connection. The normalization of substance use on social media creates an environment where high functioning addicts can more easily dismiss their behaviors as non-problematic and miss the opportunity to seek treatment for their substance misuse disorder before it escalates out of control.

Life of Purpose is one of the few addiction treatment centers that has a program designed specifically for teens and young adults who want to remain academically focused while seeking treatment for their addiction. This program has given Life of Purpose a unique and valuable perspective on the addiction epidemic in young adults.
