San Antonio, TX — Join San Antonio’s Mission Ridge Range and Academy in showing our support for the families of our Green Berets at next week’s teaser event for the upcoming Great Americans Shoot. The 7th Annual Great Americans Shoot will be held over Halloween weekend (October 30-November 1) at The National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, TX.

From 12pm to 5pm on Thursday, September 17th, Mission Ridge will be hosting a day with the Special Forces Charitable Trust (SFCT) in anticipation of the seventh annual Great Americans Shoot. Chat with SFCT’s event organizers and know that you are making a positive impact on the lives of a Green Beret and his or her family — all range proceeds during the event will be donated to SFCT.

Several Green Berets will be present at the event to get to know attendees and answer their questions.

Meet Chief Warrant Officer Five Douglas D. Frank, U.S. Army Retired, Honorary Warrant Officer of the Regiment-Special Forces.

With 38 years of military experience beginning when he first entered the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1976 as an Infantryman, and subsequently, the U.S. Army in 1978 as a Military Policeman, up through his retirement from the United States Army in 2014, CW5 Frank is a highly educated, decorated veteran who has led small teams of Green Berets, served in key and critical staff positions, and advised commanders at all levels within the Regiment during peacetime and during numerous overseas deployments, including Operation Just Cause, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and various Mobile Training Teams and Joint and Combined Exercise and Training missions throughout Central and South America in support of the U.S. Southern Command Commander’s plans for regional engagement.

CW5 Frank is married to the former Kimberly Paugh. They have two sons and five grandchildren.  The Franks make their home in Aberdeen, North Carolina. After his retirement, Frank has continued to show his support for the Special Forces Regiment though his active involvement with the Special Forces Association. In 2018, CW5 Frank founded Warrior Sportsmen, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with a mission to provide US Army Special Forces Warriors (Green Berets) a means to enhance recovery from the physical, mental and emotional stress caused by injury or long-term overseas deployments.

In 2019, CW5 Frank was chosen to join the Special Forces Charitable Trust, where he serves as Operations Director.

Meet Sergeant First Class Justin “Chac” Menchaca.

At the age of 17, Justin entered the U.S. Army in 2006, under the 18X, graduating in from the Special Forces Qualification Course as a Special  Forces Engineer Sergeant in 2008 as the honor grad of his class and one of the youngest to successfully complete the SF Qualifications Course. He was assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), based out of Fort Bragg, NC. Justin served on ODA 3232 for three years with deployments to Pakistan, then Afghanistan, where he was critically injured on July 23rd, 2011 by a gunshot wound to the head during combat operations.

According to the doctors who treated him, SFC Menchaca should have died before he hit the ground, but several comas, and a brain aneurysm, countless surgeries, and years of rehabilitation for paralysis and expressive aphasia, he is a walking, talking miracle.

He remained on active duty, moving into a training support position within 3rd Grp and continuing his own rehabilitation efforts, until medically retiring in March of 2019, with numerous awards and decorations, including a Purple Heart. SFC Menchaca now makes his home in New Braunfels, Texas.
