6 Cloud Computing Service Essentials

If you’re selecting a cloud computing service, you will need to pay attention to these 6 essentials.

Every cloud service promises high speeds, and secure storage. However, there are essentials beyond that which need your attention.

1. Infrastructure Design

All cloud computing services have data centers. However, you need to find out whether it’s secure and adheres to ISO27001 standards. The latter will obviously ensure that your data is safe. However, you will also need to find out where the data center is. Your geographical distance to it will affect speeds.

    2. High Performance Computing

You don’t have the luxury of waiting when it comes to high performance computing. When you’re working with multiple users, you can’t face performance issues. This is where high performance computing comes in. You need high processing power and multiple servers to run applications and work with increased traffic. That should be a non-negotiable feature.

      3. Multi-Layer Security

For security, there’s no compromise. For cloud computing services, you should insist on multi-layer security. Reliable cloud providers should be able to manage security at the host, network, and physical layers. Cloud computing essentials for security also include encryption, biometric security, and critical data backups.

        a. Uptime

Uptime guarantees should be there by default for companies. Cloud computing allows you to access your information at anytime and anywhere. Downtime means that you won’t have access to that information when you most need it. This can lead to a lot of money loss and dissatisfied customers.

          b. Backup

Data backups are essential to cloud computing. Not only that, you should also know how frequently your data is backed up. This should qualify for both your most critical data and every day data that is uploaded. Knowing that your data is being backed up frequently is essential to security.

            c. SLA

Service Level Agreements are a documented list of service standards. They include conditions that define how the hosting provider will compensate for failures. For custom cloud solutions you can request that the service provider defines an exclusive SLA. Evaluating the SLA before signing on the dotted line is essential.
