The coronavirus pandemic has spurred an increase in demand for digital services focused on gaining visibility in the online arena. During the months of confinement and the beginning of the de-escalation, the contracting of services for the creation of web and eCommerce applications, SEO, and digital strategy has increased by more than 40%.

These are data from the latest Marketing Barometer, carried out by Sortlist, which analyzes the impact of the health crisis on the marketing and advertising sector globally. Among the main conclusions stands out the increase in demand for digital services that allow companies to pivot from offline to online.

Thus, in these months of a pandemic, it has increased the number of new web applications and e-commerce stores by 45.6% and 41.64%, respectively. The hiring of services focused on SEO has also increased double digits (+ 36.94%), as well as that of digital strategy services (+ 30.4%).

This data contrasts with the hiring of digital advertising services, which during the months of confinement and early de-escalation phases has contracted by 30% globally.

Regarding the boom experienced in demand for digital services, Higel Emmanuel, founder of Ereferer says, "Initially, companies did not know what to do. First, there was a great impact on the bottom line. Afterward, service contracting began to accelerate."

In the coming months, facing the 'new normal,' he foresees a greater demand for specialized services in SEO, electronic commerce, content strategy, and web application, as a result of a greater need among brands to achieve more visibility online. And the obligation to be fast and flexible will gain importance.

Emmanuel further adds, "The winners of the crisis. If you take a closer look at the current situation, you can see very well that this crisis - as it was in principle with every crisis before - also produces winners. Grocery services are growing explosively at rates of over 500 percent and more in some cities."

"The shares of the video conferencing provider Zoom have been skyrocketing since the beginning of the crisis. A clear indication of the (forced) popularity of the home office. Internet service provider Akamai, which manages a very large proportion of global traffic, has already announced that it has doubled its traffic compared to the same period last year."

The media are currently benefiting enormously from the crisis in order to satisfy the unmet need for information quickly and concisely. The start page of the online portal reddit.com has also gained a lot of traffic. Business, finance, news, education, travel, and sports are particularly popular. A good indication that people can't wait to travel, invest and consume sports entertainment again.

Finally, virtually every business that has found a way to sell its services and products via the Internet is booming, provided the product is not used for mass transport or has to be consumed in groups of people. It can get more expensive to wait for online marketing right now. This is especially true for activities such as search engine optimization, which already takes a few months to show the result.

What drops quickly potentially also increases again quickly. Before the Corona crisis, the economy was stronger than it has been for a long time. As soon as people get back to their jobs, the economy will explode again. That's why it's the right time to create a strategy for digital marketing. So, by the time things get back to track again, your business will be ready to take more orders.
