Over the years Chris Torres has been one of California’s most successful chess instructors. When the pandemic made it difficult for kids to study chess in person, it was only natural that they congregated at his website, DailyChessMusings.com.
Teaching online has caused Chris to change his methods slightly, but the players have kept coming - and now the Daily Chess Musings Community has over 2000 active members. His students have continued to improve at remarkable rates as well, as shown by the many tournament victories won by them just since over-the-board tournaments started up again in the late Spring.
Torres has a deep passion for chess which he shares with his students, be they absolute beginners or ranked in the top ten for their age nationally. Of course, the key to his student’s success lies in maintaining their interest in chess which Chris accomplishes through organizing club events, tournaments, camps, and special guest lectures. Nearly all these activities are free including the very popular online summer chess camps. The second of three freewheeling summer chess camps will be from July12-16. Torres has lessons planned for all ages and skill levels but only students under 18 years of age will be eligible to win prizes. Those interested can sign up for this camp at: https://dailychessmusings.com/free-online-summer-camp-2021/
