How Many FSD Betas Will There Be?

Tesla’s AI Day last week will be remembered largely for the spandex-clad human pretending to be a future robot.

For investors and customers, though, the real value was hearing from key people on the Autopilot team, including director of software Ashok Elluswamy and director of engineering Milan Kovac. Yes, the road to full autonomy is incredibly hard, as we’ve been told time and again. But the message Elon Musk wanted to send was Tesla is on it, and if you care about the future of autonomy and AI, you should join the team.

On Monday, Musk let fly a tweet that caused a kerfuffle because he seemingly called into question just how far along Tesla is on that path.

“FSD Beta 9.2 is actually not great imo, but Autopilot/AI team is rallying to improve as fast as possible,” he wrote. “We’re trying to have a single stack for both highway & city streets, but it requires massive [neural network] retraining.”
