China's Jiangxi Jiana Energy Technology has started building a complex to produce lithium nickel-cobalt-manganese oxide (NCM) precursors and process used lithium-ion batteries in Longnan city in southeast China's Jiangxi province.
The 12.5bn yuan ($1.9bn)facility has a capacity of 100,000 t/yr for NCM precursors, which will be developed in two phases of 50,000 t/yr each. The first phase is scheduled to complete construction at the end of the second quarter of 2022 or early in the third quarter. The second phase will begin construction following the completion of the first, and will take nine months. The complex also comprises processing capacity of 50,000 t/yr for used lithium-ion batteries.
The firm is likely to expand its NCM precursor capacity further, with further details including the capacity and construction schedules undisclosed.
Jiangxi Jiana Energy Technology and Guangdong Jiana Energy Technology are both wholly-owned subsidiaries of Guangdong Dowstone Technology. Guangdong Jiana is a major Chinese cobalt refinery and NCM precursor producer, with capacity of 10,000 t/yr metal equivalent for cobalt salts and 32,000 t/yr for NCM precursors in Yingde city, in south China's Guangdong province. It is on track to expand its NCM precursor capacity to 50,000 t/yr by the end of this year.
