Grantsburg residents were mailed an update in recent days about the status of the village water supply, which has been affected recently by dangerously high manganese levels since first noted two years ago.

According to the village, they have been doing lots of work on their Well #3, which is located near Park and Harrison Ave., near the village industrial park. They have recently completed a new building at the site, as well as new utility services and new water filters which were intended to remove manganese from the water supply.

The filters arrived in late August and have had specialized plumbing and electrical hook-ups completed in recent weeks.

According to the village release, the next step in the process is to have the Wisconsin DNR test and inspect the system and filtration system, as well as test the water downstream, after filtration.

It is unclear how long that DNR approval process will take, but the village is hoping that Well #3 will be put back into service for resident use very soon, and they promise to mail out a notice to all water utility customers when it is approved, they also plan to post the updates publicly and on social media.

For the time being, they continue to encourage all residents to either drink bottled water or use their public fill station, which is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Food Shelf, located in the Village Hall complex at 320 Brad Street.
