OneWeb-NEOM JV inks deal with Pakistan’s REDtone Telecommunications - ETTelecom.com

NEW DELHI: The newly formed OneWeb-NEOM Tech & Digital Holding Company joint venture (JV) said they have inked their first distribution partner agreement with Pakistan’s REDtone Telecommunications to offer high-speed connectivity via low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites in the remote areas of Pakistan to bridge the digital divide.
The JV will offer a seamless solution to tackle infrastructural hurdles in the country, where mobile operators and local loop operators will be able to leverage the satellite communication (satcom) service to expand their coverage areas and roll out affordable internet access.
The Bharti-backed satcom company and NEOM Tech on October 26 had signed a $200 million JV deal to bring high-speed satellite connectivity to NEOM, Saudi Arabia, and the wider Middle East and neighboring East African countries.
“LEO satellites not only mean we can reach absolutely everyone everywhere but with reliable and rapid speeds – connectivity at 100 megabits per second and more without the need for techniques such as trenching or placement of 5G equipment and fibre optics. This partnership with REDtone highlights how this technology presents an incredible growth opportunity for the wider region,” said Matthew Johnson, Interim CEO of the OneWeb/NEOM Tech & Digital JV.
