How many hours do students spend on assignments in the world? The International Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) released results from countries that took part in the PISA test in 2014.

Most of the home assignments load time is spent in Shanghai (China), with an average of 14 hours per week. Russia is followed by Kazakhstan, Singapore, and Italy, with 7 hours of home assignments load each week on average. The least amount of work is done by Finnish and Korean children, who work for a little more than two hours per week.

The amount of home assignments load is determined by factors other than the school’s workload. According to OECD statistics, parents’ education and family security play a factor as well. Children from families with a high ISEI (an indicator of economic, social, and cultural standing) devote more time to home assignments. After all, such children frequently have ideal learning settings at home, and their parents highlight the importance of doing home assignments.
