Misadventures at the museum: Whit & Whimsey - cleveland.com

BRUNSWICK, Ohio – Luckily, this never happened before.

Most of you know I’m very involved with the Brunswick Historical Society and on a recent Saturday morning I met two of our volunteers – mother and adult son -- to go through our vast array of old newspapers and get some of them digitized.

I was on a timeline, however. I had to be home by 11:30 so my granddaughter had a car to go to work. The young man checked his watch and it was already 11:15 so we hurried to get out. He left first, then the two of us left. I set the alarm and locked the door.

On the way home, however, I got a call from the alarm company that we had a burglar alarm. I thought maybe I was in a rush and forgot to set it properly. I asked them to ignore it.

Then I got a voice mail from his mom that her son was locked inside the house because he was in the bathroom when we left, which I never thought to check. I was going to give her the code to get him out but the door we use has a padlock requiring a key so there was no way to get out. Then I got a message from our neighbor that there were strangers mulling around and the alarm was sounding.

He decided the only logical way out, was to open the door we never use and, of course, it set off the alarm (which can break your eardrums if you’re inside).

He went to the neighbor’s to explain. I quickly picked up my granddaughter and rushed back. His mom drove me back home.

“I thought I was going to be one of the artifacts,” he told me as we laughed about it...
