Pakistani PM Sharif Strengthens Ties with Huawei - Huawei

[Islamabad, Pakistan, May 6, 2022] At a meeting today with Yi Xiang, Huawei's Senior Vice President and President for the Middle East region, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke publically on plans to increase cooperation with Huawei's information technology development in Pakistan. Also in attendance at the meeting were the Chinese Charge d' Affairs to Pakistan Pang Chunxue, Huawei Pakistan CEO Meng Qiang, and Huawei Pakistan Public Relations Director Wu Han.
Pakistan currently exports US$1.5 billion in software services and related products annually, and this industry is expected to continue seeing rapid growth. Huawei, in particular, has also played a key part in developing Pakistan's ICT talent ecosystem ever since it began operating in the region in 1998.
Sharif expressed his hopes for Huawei's future role in the country by saying, "Pakistan has a highly competitive IT technological talent and education system, which has great potential for development. Huawei's significant contributions to our IT infrastructure and high-tech talent pool have brought new development opportunities for Pakistan. The Pakistani government wants to continue attracting investment from high-tech companies like Huawei. We look forward to strengthening our cooperation with Huawei and accelerating the penetration of innovative technologies that will truly benefit all Pakistanis."
