Mid-market companies are in a unique and challenging position – while they have outgrown the uncertainties of the startup phase, they have yet to achieve the stability and maturity of large businesses. Many CEOs and other C-suite leaders in mid-market firms often struggle on how to guide their companies into making the next step, and there is a lack of resources catering to this segment.

Growth Institute is a leadership education provider based in Austin, Texas that specializes in training executives from mid-market companies. Growth Institute’s e-learning platform provides a conducive environment to discuss, learn, and implement the latest business methodologies. The company also formed the Thought Leaders community, composed of continuously learning business leaders.

Growth Institute was founded in 2011 by Daniel Marcos, an entrepreneur from Mexico who lost his business in the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. Following the business’ collapse, Marcos realized the scarcity of resources for people in a similar position as him, and he set out to teach others the skills to scale up their business and avoid making the same mistakes he did.

Marcos partnered with business leadership author Verne Harnish to create and teach online courses, leveraging Harnish’s connections and his company, Gazelles. In creating Growth Institute, Marcos’ vision was to provide executives with the support and methodologies he wished he had during his earlier entrepreneurial journey.

Marcos says, “no one teaches you how to be a CEO. We believe the best business education is no longer exclusively for large corporations. We level the playing field for mid-market companies through an eLearning platform with access to the world’s best business thought leaders. Growth Institute has a worldwide community of C-level executives who want to learn and implement proven methodologies to help them scale up their companies faster and with less drama.”

Growth Institute now has over 55,000 members across 68 countries. In the decade since its founding, it has been recognized 4 times by Inc. 5000 as among the top 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the US.

Growth Institute currently offers three levels of programs to provide expert education and help leaders of mid-market firms in growing their businesses. It works with numerous experts in various fields of business, drawing on their extensive expertise and effectively imparting their knowledge to learners.

The first level, known as The Edge, is a membership-based “A-player accelerator” program that helps companies develop their teams with daily videos, exclusive weekly interviews, and access to a community of growth-minded executives. The program is broken up into bite-sized pieces, which makes it easier for learners to digest and execute the lessons. Each week, the program invites a thought leader to share their knowledge, and learners can directly ask the guest questions.

The second level is Master Business Courses (MBC), which are based on a hybrid education model that includes theory, practice, and coached implementation. MBCs include interactive video and live classes designed to address the critical growing pains in scaling up a company. These cover various topics integral to running a business, such as sales, negotiation, and scaling up.

The third level is the Master of Business Dynamics (MBD) All-Access Program, which aims to give learners a competitive advantage in business. It includes all the components of The Edge and MBCs in a monthly membership package for 5 business leaders in a company. This gives the company’s leadership, not just the CEO, access to a wide range of learning materials that they can implement to help their company scale.

According to Marcos, Growth Institute focuses on implementation, where executives apply the lessons they’ve learned from the courses in their own businesses, helping them reap the rewards quicker.

“Our average course completion rate is 70%, which is much higher than other online learning providers’ rates that hover at around 12%. The net promoter score of our MBCs is an average of 4.5 out of 5, which illustrates the high learner satisfaction rates in our programs.”
