German social impact company, soulbottles, is crowdfunding for their Ultraglass campaign that reintroduces a 30 year old innovation. soulbottles' Ultraglass campaign is raising 200,000 euros for a new production facility that will support these durable new bottles. The campaign began on March 22 and will finish at the end of April.

The Ultraglass bottles were inspired by a 1979 procedure of chemically hardening glass. This process was developed in Eastern Germany, but was discontinued to avoid threatening the glass market. However, soulbottles uncovered this technique three years ago and spent two years researching how it could be applied to their sustainable products.

In order to successfully produce Ultraglass bottles, glass must be submerged in a heated salt bath that causes a chemical exchange. This trading of ions creates tension that makes Ultraglass soulbottles more resistant to breakage. The bottles have been tested against normal glass counterparts and have demonstrated two times higher durability, making them shatterproof when dropped from a distance of approximately a meter. This finding was very exciting for soulbottles because although they already sold similar products, the Ultraglass line was far more environmentally friendly.

When glass durability increases, material use decreases, which means Ultraglass bottles consume less energy when produced. Since German companies utilize fossil fuels for glass production, these changes lower CO2 emissions and encourage independence from non-renewable energy sources. These benefits also make the Ultraglass bottle lighter and more long-lasting than competitors.

soulbottles sells reusable steel products that are also eco-friendly, but Ultraglass has the advantage of a unique look, higher taste neutrality, and easy recyclability. The company hopes that their new line of glass products will strengthen their company mission of promoting sustainable lifestyles that coincide with lower emissions and plastic waste.

All soulbottles have been developed to be a visual reminder for drinking more water and consciously supporting global issues. Regardless of the material chosen, soulbottles drive sustainability and social impact by donating one euro per transaction to various non-profit programs. soulbottles makes this idea even more attractive to consumers by engraving art from independent designers and large partnerships on each product.

soulbottles has been certified by B Corporation as the most sustainable company in Germany and rated in the top 10 worldwide. The team is very proud of this award and continually optimizes their entire business for sustainability and social justice. They implement fair pay policies and other principles to foster an equitable work culture that’s dedicated to creating a cleaner, healthier world.

“soulbottles is very happy to raise funding for the new Ultraglass line that harnesses previous technology to create a better today. With this new release, we will be further motivating consumers to bring change one sip at a time. Our beautiful Ultraglass bottles will give people a reusable soulmate that not only lasts longer, but also boasts more benefits than traditional products,” says co-founder Paul Kupfer.
