Chicago-based medical association, American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS) is co-hosting the 2023 UIP World Congress in Miami Beach this fall. From September 17th to the 23rd, AVLS and several other societies will be presenting the newest findings from international research and techniques around vein and lymphatic disease. The event will cover multiple topics such as deep and superficial venous disease, lymphedema, wound care, venous imaging, and more. The entire schedule is posted on the conference website.

Empowered by modern artificial intelligence, the UIP 2023 World Congress will offer translation services through a third-party interpretation provider. Rapid developments in AI have enabled the UIP 2023 World Congress to simultaneously translate sessions in 25 languages, where previously, only Spanish audio translations were available.

Attendees are able to listen to the conference and read a written transcript in their own language from their own devices. Because of this, the convention will be more inclusive and accessible for deaf and hard of hearing individuals and healthcare professionals that have limited English knowledge. These translations will be available for in-person and virtual attendees.

Additionally, since the COVID-19 pandemic, AVLS has begun recording events for virtual and in-person participants. These recordings are very helpful because several topics are discussed in different rooms and it’s impossible to see all of them at once. By watching additional content, ticket holders will receive more hours of education via online platforms than possible at in-person only events.

American Vein and Lymphatic Society is hosting UIP 2023 World Congress, alongside American Venous Forum; Canadian Society of Phlebology; Mexican Academy of Phlebology and Lymphology; Mexican Society of Angiology, Vascular, and Endovascular Surgery; and J. Raymond Tournay College of Medical Surgeons. The International Union of Phlebology (UIP) is responsible for linking prominent societies like AVLS with these other hosts. Together, their core mission is to distribute education on an international level.

The UIP World Congress is held in different locations around the globe every two years. This year, faculty decided that Miami Beach’s culturally rich environment and easily accessible location was the perfect choice for UIP 2023.

AVLS has around 2,000 members. The majority are physicians while the remaining are other healthcare professionals. All of their members greatly benefit from AVLS’ educational seminars because medical professionals are required to engage in continued training. AVLS hosts conventions frequently, but they also conduct research, complete advocacy work with policy makers.

“The ultimate goal for UIP 2023 World Congress is to expand AVLS’ regular annual meetings into something more inclusive. Now that our organization has access to AI technology, we’re very excited to connect with more individuals interested in our work and learn from qualified professionals in our field to improve patient care globally,” says Executive Director Dean Bender.
