Marcia Klingensmith, Founder of FinTech Consulting, is sharing insight into her passion and mission to help financial institutions build a strategy to add instant payments into their services.
Klingensmith’s career began when she was working in project management, which she says laid the foundation for her later work in tech and bringing stakeholders together to develop structured timelines. After moving on from project management, Klingensmith spent 12 years working in financial services with some of the nation’s largest banks and financial institutions. Throughout her time working in financial services, Klingensmith held various management positions in home equity, deposits, e-commerce, credit and lending and cyber security.
Klingensmith developed a passion for instant payments because she saw this next generation of technology, something that could make a positive impact on people’s lives. After getting first hand knowledge of instant payments and how the technology works by building out Real Time Payment capabilities, and taking several banks through the process of onboarding to the Real Time Payment network, she founded FinTech Consulting in 2023. The organization helps financial institutions build the business strategy that provides the confidence and the roadmap to begin offering instant payments to their customers. When Klingensmith begins working with financial institutions the first thing she does is hold in depth strategy sessions with them to help them understand instant payments and how it applies to their customer base and how it can help the institution achieve its business goals.
“When I talk to financial institutions a lot of them are struggling to transition their platforms to support instant payments because it can be very overwhelming, so what I can do is help them navigate the entire process, determine when, where and how to enable instant payments and set them up for success,” says Klingensmith. “When it comes time to connect to the network, If they don’t want to or can’t use their current technology providers, I can help introduce them to third party service providers who can handle the technology piece, of course I can continue to serve as a liaison or spokesperson for the financial institution during the project if needed.”
Some of the services that FinTech Consulting offers include instant payment training, strategic planning, product, project and sales enablement support to help financial institutions successfully evaluate, plan and implement instant payments. The services offered by FinTech Consulting can be selected individually or in a bundled package with sessions that can be held virtually or in person based on a financial institution's specific preferences and availability. Klingensmith not only supports organizations within the US but can also help with instant payment strategy, globally.
Currently, 70 markets around the world have a live real-time payments infrastructure that enables frictionless commerce and laying the foundation for innovation through APIs and overlay services. With instant payment becoming an integral part of the growing U.S. and world economy, financial institutions need to begin offering instant payment services for their customers otherwise they are at risk of losing customers and deposit assets.
