Dr. Mark Williams is a man of many talents. From his early days as a choir member to becoming a board-certified Otolaryngologist, his journey has been one of dedication, passion, and a relentless pursuit of merging music, medicine, and ministry in a unique and impactful way.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Williams always had a fascination with math and science. Initially drawn towards a career in surgery, he later found his calling in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, which provided him with the perfect opportunity to blend his passion for singing with his profession.

His musical journey began in 1989 when he joined a college choir. Determined to participate in talent shows, he taught himself how to write songs. This marked the inception of his musical career, which would eventually lead him to release his first national project in 2011, which won 4 National awards including the Rhythm of Gospel award. He would later release his 2nd national recording, titled “When a Man Worships,” in 2016.

“I love to combine both the medical and spiritual aspects of the voice in my teaching. For those who follow the Christian faith, the voice is a very important instrument for creating life or death,” says Dr. Williams. “The voice creates energy that has real impacts on the atmosphere. Spoken energy can create real changes in situations, rather than just being theoretical proclamations and declarations.”

Driven by a desire to address the struggle many face in engaging with worship, Dr. Williams conceptualized his 2016 music release as ‘Dude Worship’, aimed at inspiring men to actively engage in worship. His vision extended beyond music, culminating in a book that redefines worship as obedience and submission to God’s sovereignty.

The book, “When a Man Worships,” was written during the COVID pandemic when many businesses, including Dr. Williams’ surgical practice came to a halt. The book, inspired by the same titled music project, serves as a supplement, redefining, and sometimes challenging existing paradigms around worship and its various expressions.

George Floyd’s death further inspired Dr. Williams to compose “I Can’t Breathe,” a poignant reflection on social and racial injustices in America. This song further served as a powerful testament to his commitment to using music as a platform for social change and unity. This commitment has been further solidified through a weekly podcast, “The RoundTable Consult”. Together he and co-host attorney, Sonya Madison, discuss current issues from medical, legal, political, and spiritual perspectives.

This year, Williams plans to release a series of music recordings, collectively called the "Reconciled" series. He shares that one of the songs, “Try Again” is geared towards marriages, where people realize that sometimes they make some mistakes along the way. The song encourages individuals to try to be the best of friends and trust each other again. The message that Dr. Williams wants to convey through the album is to realize the imminent need for the restoration of harmony as we always put off things from tomorrow, what we really should do today. This sentiment is most aptly conveyed through the song “One More Day”. The first in the series, One Touch, is slated for release on March 29th.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Dr. Williams is a respected Otolaryngologist who relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2007, where he established his surgical practice and founded the Voice Care Center of Nashville. His passion is for treating renowned and aspiring music artists of various genres including Christian, Gospel, R&B, and Country. His holistic approach to healthcare and keen insight to medical and spiritual aspects of vocal care has garnered the trust of the likes of CeCe Winans, Kimberly Schlapman, Mickey Guyton, Taj George (SWV), Joel Kibble (Take 6), and many others.

“Everybody has a voice,” explains Williams. “Voices are as unique to us as fingerprints are, and there are certain things that only your voice can produce. If you remain silent because you're intimidated to let someone else hear your voice, the world is missing something that you have to offer uniquely.”

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Williams emphasizes the importance of balancing his various roles. As a husband and father, he prioritizes his family, recognizing them as his first ministry. Despite the demands of his medical career and music ministry, he remains steadfast in his commitment to his loved ones, ensuring they receive the attention and care they deserve.

Dr. Mark A. Williams continues to inspire and uplift those around him, leaving an indelible mark on the medical and music industries. His commitment to reconciliation and inclusivity serves as a beacon of hope in a world in need of healing.
