A UK-based travel company that specialises in unique, tailored and exciting holiday packages to explore destinations around the Nordic, Baltic, Arctic, Balkan and Scandinavian regions, the Baltic Travel Company, has launched a new selection of tours and holidays in anticipation of spikes in demand for Northern Lights trips this winter.
The Aurora Borealis remains one of the world's most fascinating natural phenomena and is best seen within the Arctic Circle in remote locations away from light pollution. Winter 2024 is expected to be one of the ideal times to travel, with excellent visibility predicted.
Booking a Northern Lights Holiday for Winter 2024
Thousands of visitors travel as far north as possible each winter to catch a glimpse of the magic of the Northern Lights, although some are left disappointed. Factors such as cloud cover, proximity to light pollution, and weather patterns may all limit the opportunity to experience the Aurora in all its glory—although, in many cases, the biggest issue is location.
Sales Manager of The Baltic Travel Company, Daina Kontrima, says, 'Northern Lights tours are among our most popular winter holidays, and we often speak with guests who have booked excursions before but found that they have yet to see any sign of Auroral activity at all.
The primary reason is that their lodge, hotel, or accommodation is too central. Even on nights when the Northern Lights are bright and visible, those too far south, within a city, or close to light pollution will see very little.
Our Aurora holidays are specifically designed to maximise your chances of seeing the lights up close and first-hand, including excursions arranged with experienced local guides to take you out into the wilderness. Staying overnight in a glass igloo, a romantic wilderness lodge or an ice hotel deep in the Arctic takes you miles from light interference.’
The company has relaunched an expanded range of tours and packages this year, advising interested customers to book as far in advance as possible. Daina notes, 'Northern Lights holidays are incredibly popular, and we commonly fill all of the exclusive accommodation spaces we have several months before – hence the advice to reserve your tour and flights early.’
Winter 2024 Northern Lights Viewing Conditions
This winter is expected to be one of the best opportunities to see the Northern Lights, due to forecast solar cycles that will make the Aurora brighter and more visible from many of the top locations around the Arctic Circle.
Studies conducted by the British Geological Survey indicate that 2024 will be the 'Year of the Aurora', with the eleven-year solar activity cycle peaking this winter.
Auroral zones are the places where the Northern Lights are most distinctive, displaying green, purple, and red shimmering lights across the night sky. During more intense geomagnetic activity, the auroral zones expand, which means the lights will be stronger and brighter in the Arctic, while other locations further out could see some signs of solar activity within the Earth's atmosphere.
