FosterFolks, a heartwarming and one-of-a-kind new platform, officially launches in the U.S. with a mission to address the growing loneliness epidemic by connecting seniors with families who don't have grandparents.
Created with love, vision, and a deep personal story, Foster Folks is free to use and poised to spark a global movement of intergenerational connection and healing. The founders, Darlene and Ken Tipton, were inspired to build the platform after a painful personal experience.
“After our daughter cut off all contact during the 2016 presidential election, we lost touch with our grandchildren,” said Ken Tipton, co-founder of Foster Folks. “We quickly realized we weren’t alone — grandparent alienation is a growing issue, with support groups in every state. At the same time, many families don’t have grandparents in their lives. Our platform is here to bridge that gap.”
FosterFolks.com functions much like a matchmaking site — but instead of romance, it fosters family. Users can search by location, interests, religion, political views, and more to find meaningful intergenerational relationships.
“We’re building a chosen family,” said Darlene Tipton, co-founder of Foster Folks. “People are craving connection now more than ever, and we’ve created a safe, welcoming space where they can find it.”
An interactive map shows registered users by zip code, color-coded as grandparents, families, or aunts and uncles. Foster Folks also offers recommendations for online background checks to ensure safety and peace of mind.
Foster aunts and uncles are particularly popular among LGBTQIA+ users and those seeking to build community outside of traditional family structures.
Currently available only in the U.S., Foster Folks is planning global expansion in 2026. With the U.S. senior population projected to reach 85 million by 2054, according to a Pew Research Center analysis, the platform has the potential to become the next tech unicorn. June 14th is now recognized as Grandparent Alienation Day to raise awareness.
