Though the shop is celebrating its first anniversary at its current location, it has been serving the community for the past four years in various locations. The journey began in 2020 at the New Bern Farmers Market. Two years later, Lisa Szymanski moved the shop to the Bear Town Exchange. In 2024, an exciting opportunity led to the relocation of Anchored In New Bern to its current home at 250 Middle Street. This move allowed the shop to expand its offerings and strengthen its presence in the community.
Currently, the Anchored In New Bern shop has two levels, featuring an impressive and diverse selection of custom-designed apparel, footwear, home décor, and handcrafted items. Customers can also find well-known brands in the store’s high-quality footwear collection, along with jewelry, clocks, ornaments, wind chimes, and a wide array of household and wellness products.
The upper level of the retail store has become a showcase for local creativity, featuring work by woodworkers, jewelry designers, clothing artisans, and vendors. This dedicated space not only highlights local talent but also fosters a sense of community among artists, makers, and shoppers alike.
“From the beginning, the goal was to build a hub, a place where people could gather, shop with purpose, discover something new, and support local talent,” says Lisa Szymanski.
Apart from the amazing selection of products, shoppers are also charmed by Izzy, the store’s friendly dog, who not only assists her owner but also brings joy and entertainment to visitors. Izzy has become a beloved part of the Anchored In New Bern, NC experience, often greeting customers with a wagging tail and a warm presence.
Customers can also shop online through the Anchored In New Bern, NC website, where the same personalized selection is available at their fingertips. In the future, Lisa Szymanski plans to promote seasonal offerings to keep customers engaged year-round and expand collaborations with artists and makers from beyond New Bern. Anchored In New Bern, NC, also aims to transform the retail store into a recognized regional brand with its commitment to a ‘shop local, ship global’ approach.
