Zhang Biyun's artworks skillfully combine the traditional Chinese cheongsam with the exquisite techniques of Western oil painting, transcending traditional boundaries. In her works, the cheongsam is no longer merely a garment, but a powerful cultural symbol, with interplay of light and shadow creating dramatic tension. Strong symbolic meanings of color define her visual language: passionate red symbolizes strength and power, bright yellow conveys hope and joy, and serene blue represents wisdom and peace.
“My artistic intention is to explore a common aesthetic that transcends language,” Professor Zhang Biyun stated at the exhibition. "The cheongsam is the epitome of Eastern elegance, while the chiaroscuro of oil painting gives it a new vitality. This is not a simple combination, but a profound dialogue about cultural resonance and harmony."
With her exquisite brushstrokes and ingenious creation of spatial depth, she demonstrates a unique artistic vision and vividly interprets the immense creative potential and harmonious beauty nurtured by cross-cultural dialogue in the era of globalization.
