The Christmas party season is dubbed by the UK’s leading cosmetic surgery provider as the DFS (Dance Floor Sweats) season, with a peak in Botox bookings during October to December, to combat excessive sweating.

The Harley Medical Group has seen an upturn in bookings specifically for men opting for Botox injections to combat Hyperhidrosis [excessive sweating], which affects one million people in England alone.[1] The condition, most commonly affecting the armpits and hands, means a person sweats excessively in order to regulate their body temperature. Men account for over half of Hyperidrosis bookings at the Group, with young male professionals leading the way, however women are known to suffer from the condition too. With a 12-hour day of commuting, a full work day combined with wearing a suit before going straight from office to the Christmas party, there is a high chance sweat patches will appear on clothes.

Lisa Littlehales, Lead Nurse Counsellor at The Harley Medical Group, says; “We call it the Dance Floor Sweats season as it’s one of the busiest times for our Doctors to administer Botox to combat Hyperhidrosis. Many city workers approach us as they don’t want to feel self-conscious at the office party. Maintaining a professional and groomed look is important to them, and having visible sweat patches on shirts can be embarrassing for the majority of patients.

The treatment for Hyperhidrosis is a quick and simple procedure. The Botox acts a preventative to stop sweat glands producing excess levels of sweat. Lasting up to six months, patients generally need to come to the clinic twice a year. There is no recovery time and patients are able to carry on with their day-to-day activities immediately. It is the best long term solution to what can be a bothersome problem.”

Stephen Symington, 20 year old patient at The Harley Medical Group says; “I used to dread having to go anywhere I knew there was a chance of excessive sweating. I had suffered from hyperhidrosis for a few years and was completely unaware that there was a preventative measure until a family member told me about the treatment at The Harley Medical Group. I genuinely cannot believe the difference it has made. My confidence has grown considerably and it’s so refreshing to finally be able to wear a bit of colour as opposed to the usual black shirts and tops I was forced to wear previously!”
