BMW's benchmark-setting 3 Series received a complete redesign just last year, but the German automaker continues to add new offerings to the luxury sport sedan's lineup. Housing a 180-horsepower TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine, the 2013 BMW 320i Sedan, which will go on sale in the spring, took the stage at the Detroit Auto Show last week, showing that premium amenities don't necessarily have to come at a premium price.

The BMW 320i will return a manufacturer-estimated 34 mpg on the highway when equipped with an optional six-speed manual transmission and 33 mpg on the highway when paired with the standard eight-speed automatic gearbox. While the new model may offer less power than the rest of the 2013 BMW 3 Series lineup, it isn't lacking when it comes to interior features, which include standard Bluetooth connectivity and options like heated seats and BMW's sophisticated navigation system.

"The new BMW 320i will be a great gateway model for aspiring BMW owners," said Marshal Cabot, general manager of BMW of Peabody, a BMW dealer in Massachusetts. "It offers the premium amenities, peerless style and dynamic handling that only BMW can provide at a more affordable price point."

Though the new BMW 320i was grabbing headlines, it wasn't the only new BMW making its big debut at the Detroit Auto Show. Sharing the platform at the event was the new BMW 4 Series Concept Coupe, a sporty two-door that previews the production version set to reach dealerships in fall 2013 as a 2014 model. Compared to the BMW 3 Series Coupe that it will replace, the 4 Series Concept Coupe has grown by nearly two inches in its wheelbase and overall width, resulting in better driving dynamics and more interior room. Outside, an aggressive front fascia and 20-inch aluminum rims reflect the car's impressive performance.

BMW hopes its new models will further bolster its sales, which rose 14 percent in 2012 year-over-year, helping the automaker again claim the title of America's best-selling luxury car brand. A total of 281,460 BMW models were sold in the United States last year, with high volume for the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series, which saw increases of 6 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

"BMW is coming off a great sales year, and the addition of the 320i and 4 Series Coupe in 2013 should not only maintain its momentum, but extend its lead in the luxury market," added Cabot. "Drivers looking to buy a BMW for the first time have more affordable options than ever before, and longtime customers will find the sleekest styles and highest performance yet."
