Dallas employment lawyer Keith Clouse wishes the United States Department of Labor a happy 100th birthday!

On March 4, 1913, President William Howard Taft signed legislation creating the United States Department of Labor. The Department’s purpose was: to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of working people, to improve working conditions for American workers, and to enhance American workers’ opportunities for profitable employment. Now, one hundred years later, the Department celebrates its centennial with a video, an interactive timeline, a series of historical posters, historical vignettes in its newsletter, and a dedicated website.

The centennial website is available at: http://www.dol.gov/100/. Throughout the year, this website will be updated to reflect new events and information. The Department also created a short video (available on the website) that highlights the ways that the Department has worked to fulfill its purpose. Finally, the Department has created an interactive historical timeline. This tool presents information about key milestones in the Department’s past and will be updated throughout the year. Website visitors can even contribute to this living document by submitting their own suggestions for new entries via email.
