PV Tech, a private energy firm and the Republic of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State (CES) have signed a pioneering agreement to increase the electrical capacity of Juba, South Sudan’s capital, via a 20MW hybrid power plant (combustion and solar). In a country where most on-grid and off-grid electricity is provided by diesel generators, this new capacity will be a more stable and cheaper alternative. For Juba, the country's largest city and hub of economic activity, this project will enable rapid growth and economic development.

To commemorate the occasion, a signing ceremony attended by CES officials and PV Tech executives and board members was held in Juba on July 18, 2013. Physical Infrastructure Minister Suba Samuel signed for the government and CEO & Chairman Fred Anguka inked on behalf of PV Tech.

"There is a great need for clean energy in South Sudan and this is a great example of the state government collaborating with the private sector to meet its energy needs. We are honored and excited to be a part of the development of South Sudan,” said Fred Anguka, CEO and Chairman of PV Tech Inc. “In this case, our understanding of the African market, our expertise in renewable energy along with the strong partnerships that we have cultivated, made us the right choice to collaborate with the Republic of South Sudan - Central Equatoria State. Furthermore, this is a fine example of the United States’ initiative “Power Africa” in action.”

Going forward, PV Tech will start advanced development work. Additional investors and partners are being sought to enhance this project.
