Finding a luxury utility vehicle that can also quicken your pulse is no easy task, but Acura set out to make getting behind the wheel of the redesigned 2014 Acura MDX an exhilarating experience no other crossover in its class can match. Automotive research firm Edmunds.com pitted the all-new model from Acura against a 2014 Infinity QX60 and a 2013 Lexus RX 350 F Sport in a series of road tests. The MDX dominated the comparison, excelling in nearly every category.

Editors were instantly impressed by the level of responsiveness and precise handling of the Acura MDX over the competition, and further scrutiny served only to reinforce their preference. With a 3.5-liter V6 engine and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD®), the Acura MDX was agile and sporty, while the level of comfort and luxury inside the cabin was head and shoulders above the other automakers' offerings. The MDX was also the most fuel efficient vehicle on the highway, with an EPA-estimated rating of 28 mpg.

"Crisp performance and handling is not something drivers usually expect from a seven-seater, but the new Acura MDX delivers on all fronts with quick responses and unparalleled overall comfort," said Peter Cronin, general manager of Prime Acura, a Greater Boston Acura dealer in Walpole, Mass. "This means the MDX is as adept at carrying the entire family as it is at providing the thrill of going through corners in total control."

Improved dynamics and fuel efficiency are the result of a series of changes introduced by Acura in the 2014 MDX model. The body is 16 percent more aerodynamic and 275 pounds lighter than the previous model without sacrificing interior space. The available SH-AWD system automatically allocates power to compensate for traction and weight distribution, enhancing ride quality and agility in any condition. Additionally, there are three different modes in the Integrated Dynamic System that allow drivers to choose between normal, sport and comfort settings depending on their driving style.
