Premium safety doesn't have to come at a premium price, as proven by Hyundai's affordable offerings, seven of which have earned Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ titles. The latest model to join the safe lineup is the 2013 Hyundai Elantra, a compact sedan with a starting MSRP of $16,965.

To be labeled with the Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must achieve the top rating of "good" in four out of five IIHS crash tests, and score no lower than "acceptable" in the fifth test. The stringent evaluations include moderate- and small-overlap frontal, side-impact, rollover and rear crash tests. Boosted by the extensive use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel in its body structure, the 2013 Hyundai Elantra received "good" ratings in four tests and "acceptable" in the new small-overlap frontal test.

"Safety shouldn't be reserved for only those with deep pockets and Hyundai has worked to create safe cars for every budget," said David Rosenberg, President of Prime Motor Group. "The Elantra is more than just safe though, it's also good value thanks to its spacious interior, top-quality components and impeccable fuel economy."

Equipped with a 148-horsepower engine that can return up to 38 mpg on the highway, the Elantra offers performance that won't drain budgets at the gas pump. Inside, available options like heated front and rear seats, satellite radio and real-time news, and premium leather upholstery offer an upscale feel. The Elantra is available in three body styles as well, including a sedan, coupe and GT, which offers up to 51 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded flat.
