Trio of Cars Prove to Be the Most Gratifying in Their Segments

HOT SPRINGS, 08/05/2014 / SubmitMyPR /

While many vehicle-quality reports focus on the things gone wrong with each model, the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study instead placed value on the "things gone right." For Dodge, good things came in threes in this year's study, as the 2014 Dodge Dart, Challenger and Charger proved to be the most gratifying to own and drive in their respective segments.

J.D. Power surveyed more than 86,000 owners and lessees of 2014-model-year vehicles after they had been with their new rides for 90 days. Covering 77 vehicle attributes, customer feedback on each model was quantified into a score based on a 1,000-point scale. According to those APEAL scores, the Dodge Dart topped the Volkswagen Beetle and Nissan Sentra in the Compact Car segment, while the Dodge Challenger stood alone atop the Midsize Sporty Car category. In the Large Car segment, the Dodge Charger bested the Chevrolet SS and Kia Cadenza.

"One great thing that the Dodge Dart, Challenger and Charger all have in common is that they offer a highly engaging ride without sacrificing fuel efficiency in the process," said Tim Parker, dealer principal of Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, an Arkansas Dodge dealer. "That's a very gratifying attribute for car buyers because they get all the driving fun without feeling like they're throwing away money at the gas pump."

Available with three responsive-yet-efficient engines, the 2014 Dodge Dart offers an optional 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 four-cylinder that produces 184 horsepower while still returning up to 35 mpg on the highway, as well as a 160-horsepower 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder that nets up to 41 mpg. Meanwhile, the 2014 Dodge Challenger comes standard with an award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that churns out 305 horsepower and reaches up to 27 mpg on the highway. The same engine outputs 292 horsepower in the 2014 Dodge Charger, where it enables a best-in-class 31-mpg highway rating.
