IsoSciences, LLC, King of Prussia, PA., is pleased to announce the availability of a newly developed diverse selection of isotopically labeled Vitamin K analytes, including Vitamin K1-[13C6] (Phytonadione-[13C6], Catalog #14329), Vitamin MK-4-[13C6] (Menaquinone-4-[13C6], Catalog #15277), Vitamin MK-7-[13C6] (Menaquinone-7-[13C6], Catalog #15278) and Vitamin MK-9-[13C6] (Menaquinone-9-[13C6], Catalog #15279).  This represents the first time that Vitamin K Carbon-13 stable labeled internal standards are available for clinical diagnostic analyses on mass spectroscopy based systems.

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is primarily known for the important role it plays in blood clotting: however, vitamin K is also absolutely essential to building strong bones, preventing heart disease, and plays a crucial part of other bodily processes. Despite these known benefits, vitamin K is sometimes referred to as "the forgotten vitamin" because its major benefits are often overlooked. Recent studies suggest vitamin K is an important adjunct to vitamin D, so if one of these vitamins is present as a deficit, then neither vitamin works optimally in the body.

“Vitamin K has been called the next vitamin D, which has been one of the most widely run assays on LC-MS/MS equipment in the clinical diagnostics market.  As the analysis of vitamin K continues to evolve, IsoSciences will continue to expand into Vitamin K epoxides and additional MK derivative products,” stated Scott Landvatter, President of IsoSciences.

Vitamin K can exist naturally as vitamin K1 or vitamin K2 (commonly referred to MK or Menaquinone).  Vitamin K1 is found in green leafy vegetables and vitamin K2 in cheese and natto (fermented soybeans).  Vitamin K has been found to play a role in coagulation, tissue calcification and regulation of cellular functions.  Vitamin K deficiency has been linked to adults taking vitamin K antagonists and infants who are exclusively breast fed.  Adults taking sufficient vitamin K1 (daily intake of 120µg for males and 90µg for females) had a lowered risk of cardiovascular disease.
