March 19, 2021— Big Brothers Big Sisters of Summit, Medina & Stark Counties, Inc. and ANIMO Health are continuing their series of Keep Kids Connected events with the Biggie Awards, a celebration of the creativity of children.

The Keep Kids Connected series of virtual events was created by BBBS and ANIMO Health—with funds coming from a grant from the Akron Community Foundation’s Millennium Children’s Fund—to address the devastating isolation and depression facing children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike past events, the Biggie Awards marks a return to in-person fun. Videos created by the kids will be shown on the big screen, where they will be scored by judges, with awards going to the videos and performances that score the highest.

“As one of the children shared with us, had it not been for our events, he would have nothing to do during this,” said ANIMO Health founder Ken Fanger. “Virtual engagement with children has its limits, which is why we are excited to be planning a spectacular in-person event. The volunteers and resources will determine how big.”

“We are grateful for the partnership we have established with ANIMO Health and due to their efforts, we were able to plan virtual Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties for our matches,” said Karen Mitchell, Program Manager at BBBS. “And we have even bigger things in store to Keep Kids Connected through COVID and beyond.”
